And as for the "guess" article itself, I find it amusing that of the four pivotal moments Paolini identifies as formative in his career, none of them mentions happening to be in the right place at the right time when Carl Hiaasen walked into a bookstore he was signing at and decided, in his complete inexperience with fantasy, that he ought to buy the stupid book for his stepson on account of its being so impressive to him that a teenager could write a whole book.
I "guess" he thinks that has nothing to do with it and that Random House would have "approached" him on its own? Without an established writer calling his own people and saying "hey, check this out, I didn't even read it myself because fantasy totally isn't my thing but my kid liked it" . . . ?
