i hate the math lab

i hate the self paced math. it is too easy to miss a couple weeks and not stay on track. i hate the people that work there. the problem with math is that the people who teach it are the ones that never had to learn it in the first place. have you ever met a mathematician that struggled with math? the people that explain math are just as vague and incomprehensible as the textbook, maybe even a little worse. they are belittling of people who don't understand. they should feel fortunate to have a job to teach people math. they should be happy that people still don't understand after reading the book, otherwise, they would be out of a job.

i don't like the personality of a math major either. and the ones i have met and do like, they don't like other mathematicians, and they shun them. i like the "shunners" a lot because they understand that it is a gift to know math, and not to be big about it. even if they did study hard and sacrificed a lot to get where they were. because they understand that everyone has an occupation to fill and that not everyone can be a math person (thankfully. how boring!) they understand that to keep things interesting, you must have people that are constantly learning something new and to take a humble approach at knowledge. not just to be able to say "i know this. i read a book. i had a teacher that said this. or i read few articles or a few book and even took a couple classes on the subject." YES!! i know, you know a lot! but not everything. not exclusively. it would be lonely otherwise. who could you possibly talk to and have them understand and identify with you. and the more you learn and the more you know, the more you understand that you know nothing.(or that you need to know more)

i guess that is where wisdom comes in. that is when you know enough not to ever brag or say that you know about something; but rather take a step back, and watch younger restless people clamoring for the attention you once sought, chuckling, knowing that it is more important to understand and to learn than to express how much you know.
