miscellaneous linkage + that meme
- Most of you have probably seen it already, but Rachel Maddow on DADT and on winning votes because you earn respect for your actions, not because you stir up fear of your opponents' actions.
- Meta rec (via poisontaster): Neoliberal Holmes, or, Everything I Know About Modern Life I Learned From Sherlock. This sharply, succinctly articulates much of what's problematic about the show, but it's not unsympathetic to fans. From the comments:

absolutely. and it's a betrayal of everything i'm invested in to find [Sherlock] charming, and watch for his little flickers of vulnerability like that's what really matters.
In a larger sense, it made me think about my own responses to media, and about the difficulty (for me) of striking a balance between enthusiasm and critical thinking.
- preromantics needed cheering up today, and her post's comments yielded absolutely adorable pictures of Alexander Skarsgård and Deborah Ann Woll at Comic-Con that I had not seen before.

- I've been reading Gotham Central (Renee Montoya! ♥) lately, and then, last night, femslash_today informed me that one of my favorite writers, jengrrrl, had written a new Kate Kane/Renee Montoya story! Pas de Deux, 5600 words. I don't think you have to know comics canon to enjoy it, and there's even a kickass mix to go with it. :DDDDDD
- I kind of want to do that top five meme that's going around. (Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or not fannish or whatever. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them in a new post (or in comments).) Humor me? <3
