Book Review: Love in the Afternoon By Lisa Kleypas
Its been a while since I have post a review on something but because of NaNoWriMo, I was not able to read anything for this month. When I did have time I dived into the Lisa Kleypas's Love in the Afternoon.
It is the 5th book of the The Hathaways Series, which I didnt know exsisted until I wanted to put in my review so I have to say that I havent read the pervious books, but I figured other than charecters that might have appeared in pervious books, there wont be events that I would need to know about since most of these types of books series are usually stand alones.
Plot: The different possibilities on how this book would flow with the summary that was provided was the thing that attracted me the most about it. How will the charecters react once they know the truth? will they hate each other or bounce in each others arms? how difficult will finding out the real sender of the letter will be for our hero?
With these Questions in mind I dove right in
I have to say it was an okay read, satisfying but ok. I really liked Beatrix, I think the author truly captured her character well and made her unique. The Author did not just make her the typical heroine that is "different and Unique from the rest of society" which is a technique that most authors do but often don't get it quite right. This Book has shown that Beatrix's true personality in how she truely loves animals and her personality and actions defines it.
As for the hero Christopher, while I always enjoy a tragic/wounded/scarred hero, though can be sweet sometimes I have to say that he did get on my nerves, a bit after they Both got married with how his attitude was with Beatrix , I can be forgiving as it is somewhat realistic for him to push her away and to have the flaws that he did. However the statement that he made in page 303, asking her if he should have sex with her, was something I couldn't forgive him for, it was him being a pure jackass to her. I am glad she told him off on that point and did not remain silent when he stated that statement
I REALLY REALLY wanted to see a face to face confrontation between Beatrix and Prudence on how Christopher chose Beatrix over her so that was slightly disappointed me that the author did not include a scene like that. Ending the conflict with just a mention that Prudence left an angry letter and just eloped.
Other than that, I can say that I enjoyed this book, plot and it's characters (most of the time lol)
