I'm sorry, we only treat homeless people here

This morning I woke up feeling awful again, like the stupid fever had decided to take another shot at me. I made some coffee, but found that I couldn't bear to even smell it, so I drank a little water and took some Tylenol and went back to sleep for another couple of hours. When I woke up again it occurred to me in a dim sort of way that I should probably go see a doctor of some sort, and find out if I had strep throat or pneumonia or anything like that.

So I put on some clothes and walked out into what turned out to be quite an impressive windstorm. It was actually a rather nice day; the sun was out some of the time, and it wasn't too cold, but it was so windy that at one point I really thought I was going to get blown across the street. My hair had started out in a simple ponytail, but soon it looked as though I'd been visiting Medusa's hairdresser. I went to four different clinics looking for someplace that would accept a walk-in patient who wasn't homeless but had no insurance, and wound up at the place near school where I had gone when I got hit on the head last summer.

They were very nice, and I didn't even end up waiting too long. The doctor didn't think I had strep, but took a swab to be sent out for testing, and wrote me a prescription, so she can call me when they get the test back, and I can fill the prescription if necessary. On the way home, I stopped at the drugstore and got some cough syrup, a new supply of non-aspirin, a box of kleenex (our MOST SOOTHING!), and a Snickers bar. The guy behind the register was on auto-pilot, and said cheerfully "How ya doin' today?" Then he looked at my four things and seemed a bit sheepish, so I told him, "I could be a bit better, actually." He held up the Snickers bar and nodded. "This will fix it," he said.

And then I came home and made some tea and fed myself ramen with dumplings, which isn't much but was about all I could handle. I was somewhat relieved to find that I was able to eat something. All the walking around seems to have made me feel a bit better. Fresh air and exercise, I guess.
