Have any of you found that you really wanted to study a particular culture but were too uneasy (for your health or personal safety) to travel to that country to do fieldwork?  Such as having an interest in Darfur or Iraq. 

Thanks to a swift kick in the pants by my ever-alert Chinese professor, the paper last semester about the Hui Muslims in China has become a jumping point into a senior thesis centered around the Uyghur Muslim ethnic minority nationality. This quarter, I'm taking an Anthro.fieldworks method course 471 and have to find a site to do observational/participant studies, 6-8 hours a week for the rest of the quarter.
