Hi everyone!
I was wondering if there are any of you out there currently in the University of Michigan's Joint Program of Social Work and Anthropology? I've had stars in my eyes for this program for quite a while now, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a short (or long) blurb about what they think of it from a student's perspective--what the academic community is like, how hard it is to get in, etc? Any emic perspective would be appreciated. My biggest dream is to work for Oxfam, which is an extensive global charity organization dedicated to global poverty alleviation, strengthening local economies, and emergency aid in natural or human caused disasters. I thought this program at the U of M would match that goal, since I'd love to continue studying anthropology as well. I'm stuck at trying to get some faculty contacts going though. Does anyone know the faculty well enough to make some recommendations? Or, does anyone know of any similar programs anywhere else? I'm particularly interested in joint programs with anthropology.
Thank you!
