PRESENT PARTICIPLE comprenant understanding
PAST PARTICIPLE compris understood
PRESENT je comprends I understand
tu comprends you understand
il comprend he understands
nous comprenons we understand
vous comprenez you understand (in the plural)
ils comprenent they understand (so they say)
IMPERATIVE comprends understand! (but I do not)
comprenons understand! (I’m not sure if we do)
comprenonez understand! (it feels like everyone does but me)
IMPERFECT je comprenais I used to understand
tu comprenais you were understanding
il comprenait he was understanding
nous comprenions we used to understand, when I was still part of we
vous compreniez you were understanding, but grew weary and distant
ils comprenaiant everyone used to understand, but not now
FUTURE je comprendrai I don’t understand, I can’t keep up
tu comprendras you told me I will in time
il comprendra things have changed and I can’t move fast enough
nous comprendrons we sit with mutual friends and talk for hours
vous comprendre you all seem to speak a different language
