Happy in the Summer Rain

Today started grumpy and got better.

For an Adelaide Summer day, it's been wierd - cold, grey and wet. Smoochycat has spent the day sleeping on the Couch Of Doom TM (see below), trying to con us that he's not eying off the pile of freshly washed and ironed fabric I need to get around to cutting out. Smarmycat, on the other hand, has proved that he doesn't have the sense to come in out of the rain. Well, not until he's unpleasantly wet - you know, the level of wet a cat needs to be to ensure that cat-hair will stick like glue to anything it touches - and then he gets suprised and hurt when we don't want to pat and snuggle.

Couch Of Doom TM - we have a very old grey couch we are waiting until we finish renovating to replace. It's upholstered in something that's part velvet, part carpet and part fluff magnet. The fabric has managed to tear at both ends where the arm-rests meet the seat, so we have these big 'pockets' into the body of the couch itself. Tacked across the bottom of the couch is industrial strength calico that would't rip unless your life depended on it, so to rescue things the couch has eaten, we have to actually turn the couch upside down and stand it on one end so everything slides down and can be got at.

So far, the C.O.Doom has eaten the remote, the cordless phone, several entire cushions, my knitting, lots of books, a laptop, one of the cats (who wasn't expecting it, but has since learned the interior of the couch is a good place to play his favourite game of 'Ambush'), a handbag, my purse and Figitboy's wallet (many times) and almost a small child.

Today got better this afternoon when we got news that Figitboy has got his dream job (won't give details, but he'll be able to see dolphins in the wild from his office and it has great benefits).

I've been stripping paint off a door with antique glass, so I haven't been able to use a heat gun on it. However, the putty has been soft and fairly easy to get out - unlike the kitchen window! I spent six hours gently chiselling out the wierd 'putty' it had been out in with. I realised while brushing my teeth and mentally reminding myself I have to replace the tile that fell off the wall in the bathroom that the window had been put in with tile grouting, not window putty.

However, I am about to stop this, and now I am going to play Grown Up Mud Pies. Also known as painting.
