Like all southern towns, the little town I've moved to has a church on almost every corner. From the town square you can see at least 5 of them. Some of them are very old with lovely architecture and tall steeples, and the courthouse has a big clock on the dome. I live 2 blocks away from the square and can see the courthouse from my house. Spring is such a conundrum. It simultaneously creeps up stealthily, gradually, gently -- and it leaps forth in a sudden green, chirping, chattering, colorful cacophony. After doing half a dozen loads of laundry my entire apartment smells like clean clothes, as does the front walk where the dryer vents. It's heavenly!  I've always loved the scent of fresh laundry - of clean and warm and home. It makes me happy. 

So, I had lunch with a friend's grandmother today. We went to a little meat-and-three after church and due to a comedic series of miscommunications, it ended up just being the two of us. She is a delightful lady, and we had a very enjoyable time. We both had chicken and dumplings (rather lackluster, unfortunately) but the veggies were divine. The ( Read more... )

The sun is shining, reflected gold in the autumn leaves. The sky is cloudless and that shade of blue you only find on fall days. The air is crisp and cool and it rustles the drying leaves. I love to fly.
