I am going to use NaNoWriMo as a driver to finish a first draft of my novel-in-progress. It will perforce be a sloppy draft in need of much editing, as all stuff spewed out in November tends to be, but that's okay. First drafts are supposed to suck. I keep meaning to comment, but I have the plague and it's affecting my thinking. I like that Nanowrimo idea, using it as a first draft push. I'm doing somewhat the same, but a friend and I have also invented Nanowri6mo. We're going to use November to write out a plot outline, then write 16,000 words a month till the end of April in an attempt to write a good novel slowly :)

That's a decent, sustainable pace! I couldn't do this right now unless I had a strong outline and a solid base of existing prose to build on. But I am unbelievably slow right now with writing new prose, and I need to light a fire under myself or I'll never finish.
