I am going to use NaNoWriMo as a driver to finish a first draft of my novel-in-progress. It will perforce be a sloppy draft in need of much editing, as all stuff spewed out in November tends to be, but that's okay. First drafts are supposed to suck. This is why December will be National Novel Editing Month

I keep meaning to comment, but I have the plague and it's affecting my thinking. I like that Nanowrimo idea, using it as a first draft push. I'm doing somewhat the same, but a friend and I have also invented Nanowri6mo. We're going to use November to write out a plot outline, then write 16,000 words a month till the end of April in an attempt to write a good novel slowly :)

That's a decent, sustainable pace! I couldn't do this right now unless I had a strong outline and a solid base of existing prose to build on. But I am unbelievably slow right now with writing new prose, and I need to light a fire under myself or I'll never finish.
