Welcome to '08

Writing from Oshawa, whining in my spare time over the lack of cafes. Even the local SB, which would usually do in a pinch, is just too depressing. The vibe is worse than an office tower hive cubicle. Kind of like the whole city: big box wasteland, a realm of generic consumption, all grey and frigid like the gall-mart parking lot with its crust of snow-salt and grime.

It's only the sharp contrast to SD that twists the knife. The year started with completing a story for the Infinity Swords anthology on the balmy patio at Cosmos Cafe, also with morning yoga on the sun-drenched deck overlooking El Cajon to the east. So my grousing comes from the recent -27C wind-chill walk to the pool that, as it happens, doesn't open in the afternoon.

The end of 2007 saw acceptances for "Re-Annunciation" on OnSpec (next issue), and Elaine Cunningham accepted "Exiles" for her Lilith anthology. (I just got back a copy of the contract. Can't wait to see it!)

Back to the "fringe wisdom" project (Mahavidyas): I just finished the first draft of the Matangi chapter. I like how it ends, but I'm going to need to shave a huge chunk off its crazy 12k word count.

matangi, oshawa, mahavidyas
