Last night in the CVICU, probably ever!
Why is it that as soon as I come on to the night float shift, someone in the CVICU tries to bleed out on me? Last night was a post-op heart patient that was pouring out of his chest tube at a rate of about 1200mL per hour. Tonight, ECMO patient who had been stable for the past several days, suddenly started bleeding to her chest tube at about the same rate. I've gotten really good at ordering massive amounts of blood products. I feel like practically everyone in the unit is getting blood tonight...
