And the first day of a new month is almost over. It rained a lot today, which is rather expected for this time of year here in the Lowcountry. Otherwise, a very quiet day. The teens were off at friends'. I ran my errands early: bank, grocery store, paid a bill, grabbed a couple of groceries, and got books and DVDs for Little A at the library. In truth, I should have nabbed myself a few books while I was at it, but in the bustle of the moment, they were overlooked.
Little A has spent the day swaddling dogs in blankets. They don't seem to mind a bit.
I also worked on a menu as things around here are about to take a turn for ...well... crazy. On top of the usual racing about with the girls' high school schedule, I now add night school for D. Four nights a week. I will pick up the girls from school, drive them home, drop them and turn around and go pick up Q, take him home to watch the baby, pick up D and take her to school. Then wait till she gets out, pick her up, drop her back off, and then, at last, drive home. Altogether I will be primarily in the car from 1:30 till 9:30. Whew.
Obviously a menu is in order, as the teens are not cooks, despite my continued efforts to train them. Therefore, the meals must be simple and fairly well fool-proof. Soup and grilled cheese I think they can manage.
Then again, I left them home with already made spagetti sauce and all they had to make was the pasta and they didn't. (rolling eyes) If their future husbands complain... it is NOT my fault. I tried!
So I think chili is in order... that makes meals for three days (and can be spaced out over a few weeks even). Chili. Chili dogs. And chili-cheese-fries. Crockpot scalloped potatoes will work, Chili and Lime Chicken (also made in the crock pot)with Escabeche would be a great filling for some tortillas. Wildfire salad requires nothing but for them to dish it up...and everyone loves salad. Hmmm...what else? Suggestions are welcome.
On other topics:
Edits on my crit partner's book go well. She is speeding along on her revisions for her editor and I am running to keep up.
Khyr and company are in the final battle and I am within shooting distance of the ending as soon as I can catch my breath and put it on paper. Meanwhile the unending, unnerving questions begin to arise. What have I done poorly? What needs more explanation? Or needs to be cut? Or added? Have I been consistent throughout this long, long journey?
Writing is such a magical thing. Coming to the end of that journey a bit frightening. But then my own edits will begin, and I am excited for them.
Can't wait for that journey to begin.
