10:49pm: Yes indeed! And I got to have pancakes over at the parental house this evening as well as dinner! :O) Good times indeed.
In less good times, my left knee/leg hurts...why? I have no idea, I think it just wants to be an ass. Or perhaps I've become an old man and it's reacting to the weather or something, LOL (In all seriousness though, it's been all over the place...cloudy, pouring down with rain, sunny and now...back to pouring down with rain again).
Anywho, I've got to get to work a bit earlier than usual tomorrow with Mrs S so I better take us back to...
Oh and as postscript from yesterday's tale...our very nice room attendant left this
amazing towel art for the little bro and I in our cabin. LOL so cute.
So yes, the next day we had arrived in port at Noumea, New Calendonia.
However, I was rather disappointed to discover that because another more expensive cruise ship had arrived before us (or maybe it really is first come, first served there) our ship had to dock at the commercial port, so when I got up to Mum and Dad's cabin to take a look out I found our view was of some mine and the other side was
this. Not the most tropical of views! Apparently New Calendonia has a lot of nickle so that's what the mine was for.
Anywho, the other downside of this was rather than just been able to walk off the ship any time we felt like we had to make sure we left in time to catch buses to the passenger dock because you weren't allowed to just walk through a working port - even if it was the weekend. Luckily there were quite a few buses, so it didn't take long to get one.
This time the whole family came along even Dad, and the first thing we did once we got off the bus was go to the supermarket, or as it's known in the French Territory the
supermache!. Mum and Dad had been to Noumea before so they knew about it, but it was something new for me and the little bro. For one thing, it was kind of like Wal-Mart with not just food and stuff, but clothes and household items as well. The shirts provided a opportunity to buy something for Dad (his birthday was the next day!), although we couldn't get it right then because Dad was with us! (Luckily we split up later on, although the little bro and I did end up surrepteiously for him that first time through).
After that, we didn't actually have much of a plan! I'd hoped to catch the famous chou chou train, but it didn't seem to be around, also kind of expensive...We didn't have a map, but fortunately there was a tourist info centre in the main park and Mum decided we should get a bus to the more touristy district - the plan was to go to a hotel for lunch I think? But rather than take a tour, Mum thought it would be interesting to take the local bus. Luckily she speaks French so we were able to get the right one and soon came across this restaurant that was located out in the sea! I neglected to actually get a photo of that, which was dumb, but
here's a photo I found on the web.
Now Mum and Dad had wanted to go to it - it's name is Le Roof- the last time they were on the island but it was closed, this time around though it wasn't! So up the long boardwalk we went and got a kick-ass table with a nice
view of the sea and an island where they do that free diving thing. There wasn't actual a lot of beach to see, apparently it was high tide.
Of more interest was the hole in the floor in the middle of the restaurant where you could look over the railing and see a
whooole lotta fish! Customers seem to feed them a lot from there because there weren't any on the outside of the restaurant.
Anywho! The place was quite expensive so I didn't actually get a meal, I got some fries instead, which tasted a bit...different. Not bad as such? But weird! Meanwhile the little bro and Dad got some ribs and Mum got some sort of...fish dish. I can't remember, LOL.
And yikes...I've just noticed the time...looks like I'll have to split this entry and tell you about the rest of the day next time. LOL, this'll just keep on keepin' on I guess. Stay tuned!
Goodnight all!
