I posted this as a comment in a friend's journal, with apologies to her because I've heard what she said before but for some reason it really set me off this morning - it's totally not her. :) just finally pushed over the edge

maybe i should e-mail this but i'll adventure posting it publically:
i don't have a problem with republicans per se, i mean hellooooo i totally love you and my last boyfriend of 18 months was a pretty vocal log cabin republican. in fact, you might be surprised, there's some things i agree with republicans on. mccain isn't 100% bad to me.... just 99%. hahahah just kidding just kidding. in all honesty, obama's not the perfect candidate but who is? you often times have to pick the one that's closest to what you believe in.
what bugs me about republicans as of late is who is pulling the strings in the party, the "moral majority" or whatever you want to call it. i actually went to a republican meeting once to kind of support my ex in his political asperations and i was just kind of grossed out by the way people are talking... by the way they all band together to try to take away equality for me (prop 8), etc. etc. it's a big part of what appeals to me about the democratic party right now. democrats are talking change, talking new ideas, and staying the hell out of my bizzzzzness. george W bush has, in my big fat opinion, turned this country for the worse in the past 8 years and i blame part of that on the fact that he's spent some of his time on these social issues like the federal marriage amendment that were just a waste of resources and time.
however, i also won't let a few bad republican apples spoil the barrel. honestly, sometimes i feel we need a 3rd political party in this country so freakin bad. a party that's fiscally conservative but socially liberal. i know, it's not necessairly a realistic view but i hope to see something viable besides democrat/republican form in my lifetime.
