R. Kelly Thinks You Look Like His Jeep

I was reminiscing over my favorite albums when I was a teenager and ended up downloading several of them that I've parted with over the years. I don't know if it is the rose-colored glasses we all look at the past through, if I'm emotionally attached to the albums, or if they're just damn good recordings, but I'm still in love with many of them.

Then I ran across R. Kelly's self-titled album from 1995. I know he's a bit (okay, a lot) sleazy nowadays--and probably back then, too--but I remembered owning and listening to that particular album over and over again in middle/high school. "You Remind Me of Something" cracked me up then, and it still does to this day. Comparing a woman to a Jeep just never quite sat right with me. I mean, who else could get away with lyrics like: You remind me of my Jeep; I wanna ride it. Something like my sound; I wanna pump it. Girl, you look just like my car; I wanna wax it. And something like my bank account; I wanna spend it. I mean, for fuck's sake, right? The funniest thing? He makes it sound like a smooth compliment--like he really wants to ride, pump, wax, and spend you.

You know you need some humor in your life:

I will, however, concede that "Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)" is a masterpiece and, unquestionably, one of the best songs about infidelity you will ever hear. I don't know if it is because I've seen the music video or not, but I've always found the song to be very cinematic.

Down Low (Nobody Has To Know) ...

P.S. - Can Spring hurry up? It's effin' cold.
