weekend, this and that
Things what I did this weekend:
1. On recommendation of sister-in-law's zen hipster club-manager brother, went to hear some live music: Peter Mulvey
I love skillful guitar playing, so I was happy. You can listen to a song here if you want: Knuckleball Suite
2. Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market. I've been going to Renegade Craft things since they started, back in ye olden days when you couldn't throw a rock without hitting someone selling bottle-cap magnets, but ugh, they've gotten so big and the crowds are insane. There were multiple moments were we basically couldn't move and only stubbornness kept us from bailing.
Being annoyed brings out my inner cheapskate so I didn't buy much, but one vendor we did talk to who had amazing stuff was these people: Worker B. They make super-clean skin-care products out of beeswax and various oils and honey and propolis (which is a bee thing--it's the glue they seal their hives with or something and it stimulates circulation so putting it in hand creams means they warm up your hands a little) and they were so good. The lotion bar is amazing--it disappears right into your skin and you don't leave fingerprints on stuff. I'm always wanting products with fewer chemicals in them so I'm glad to have found them. The lotion and cream were also wonderful. ♥
Also I really loved this girl's work--lots of sea urchin spines: Yellowgrey
3. Saw the new Alexander Payne movie, The Descendants. George Clooney is so good in it! So's the girl who plays his older daughter. And Hawaii--Hawaii is also very excellent in this movie.
4. Learned how to use Google Web Fonts. Just in time to be late putting them into my new web site design! But I'm v. excited to learn them because (a) so useful!, and (b) there's one that looks almost exactly like what I was going for with the hand-drawn text navigation on my site redesign. Using that instead of the hand-drawn will save me vast amounts of time later when I need to make changes. NEW KNOWLEDGES! SO EXCITING!
5. Kept up with the learning Wordpress stuff. Found a bunch of plugins to deal with things I wanted to do but didn't know how. This is a relief--the less I have to learn to code new things, the happier my December will be.
Things what I didn't do this weekend:
a. Work on my WIPs. The only fiction writing I did was in my head, on the treadmill at the gym and again at 4 this morning when I woke up, my brain full of Wordpress code and half-dreamed Google Fonts, and tried to distract myself back to sleep by thinking about what I need to do to finish Sarek/Amanda.
b. Write down my goals for December. They are:
- post an LJ update on at least even-numbered days
- write for 10 minutes every day
- try to finish at least 2 WIPs
- have work-related blog up and running with some content before month-end
- get holiday gifts in the mail by the 12th
- CHRISTMAS TREE!
