I watched the first 20 minutes of Requiem for Methuselah while on the treadmill at the gym on Friday. I haven't watched the whole thing yet but so far we have:
- Planet with magenta sky and lots of vaguely desert-y rocks: CHECK
- Floaty robot head thing that always shoots at Spock first: CHECK
- Strange guy who's inexplicably menacing at first, then turns inexplicably hospitable, all with no change of affect: CHECK
- Random attractive female with whom Kirk develops spontaneous love connection: CHECK
- Spock playing the piano: WHUT
I left off at the point where Spock, done playing the piano, informs Kirk that the waltz he's been playing is by Brahms, and that the manuscript is "in Brahms's own hand, which I recognize."
Never mind the explanation for why no-affect weirdo guy has the manuscript, I want to know the backstory behind Spock (a) playing piano and (b) recognizing Brahms's handwriting. Childhood on Vulcan punctuated by embarrassing recitals? Secret time-crossing love affair with Johannes Brahms, carried on via exchange of handwritten notes? HOW IS THIS THE PLOT? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
[Also re: Friday's post, I am the world's slowest meme-answerer, but here are my
five items of head-canon for Spock Prime/Gaila and
five for Spock/Uhura. Random Spock Prime/Gaila ficlet gestating!]
