For today's
wrisomifu checkin,
1. Vulcans! Which means lots of characters who are outwardly stoic/calm while inside they're experiencing INTENSE EMOTIONS, indirect conversations, lots of nonverbal communication; also HAND PORN.
2. Odds are very great that it's het.
3. Someone wakes up, goes to bed, dreams, or lies awake while someone else sleeps. (Two of my stories begin with someone waking up/returning to consciousness, and I'm working on a third--a fact that makes me self-conscious, but there's no other way to begin this story so, ugh, just trying not to repeat myself.)
4. Recurring themes: the difficulty of removing Vulcan clothing (so complex!); the idea that Orions always smell like your favorite thing; Vulcan bondage; intoxicated/impaired Vulcans (esp if emotionally compromised and in need of assistance undressing, oof); half-serious joking about a Gaila/Sarek/Spock Prime threesome. (Half-serious to the characters. I'm 100% serious about making it happen.)
5. Never has: violence, angst, character death; the strongest warning I've ever had to give was "humorous dubcon." Usually has: sex, humor. Always has: love and friendship, characters being awesome, happy ending.
And, for fun and since I can find it easily,
Five ways you can tell you're reading a fic by anodyna:
1. Is Star Trek: reboot fic in which Spock and Uhura (a) are in love, (b) spend copious amounts of time having awesome Vulcan sex, and (c) is kind to all characters, and does not do mean things to them. [Alternatively, is single instance of Spike/Angel AU circa 2002 in which they (a) are love, and (b) spend copious amounts of time...etc.] Influence of Jane Austen apparent in predominance of happy endings.
2. Language = labored over with the intensity of an English major/perfectionist. No detail too small to have been angsted over. Metaphors abound. Concise-ish.
3. Is passionately beloved by its author, who has only resisted the siren call of doing DVD commentary on ALL OF THEM because of desire to finish current story. Also insecurity about whether people would enjoy reading as much as I'd enjoy doing, but THAT IS MY HANGUP.
4. Absence of physical descriptions of body parts. No green penii, no loving analysis of alien anatomy. Poss. not enough profanity, a little too much euphemism. I'm working on that!
5. Pairs up Spock Prime and Gaila. (Can I really be the only one? I had to have the pairing tag made especially for me at st_reboot. Tell me if there are others please!)
RANDOM NOTES:
a. I think there is actually one other person who's written Spock Prime/Gaila now. I haven't read it because in mid-WIP forever and ever and don't want to be influenced, but it exists, yay!
b. I never did do a DVD commentary of a story. Maybe when I finish these WIPs I'll try one. Um, by then I may have forgotten what the hell I was thinking, however.
c. I think my fic is a lot more humorous now. I blame the Gaila influence.
