Responsibility begins with conception?! What reality are these whack jobs living in?!
My friends, responsibility begins with safe, affordable, effective birth control and birth control education without fear of social stigma or persecution! As it is, our world population is dangerously high, and our natural resources are failing, our Mother Earth is suffering. Why in the hell would you want to bring a child into this world only to see it die slowly and painfully of malnutrition or disease?
Hopefully the pro-lifers know about this photo. This I will place under a cut, because it's emotionally painful to view...
And what about the unwanted children who slip through the cracks of the United States' welfare system? The babies that are born to neglectful or abusive parents who will not do the right thing and give them up for adoption... Studies show that loving, nurturing care is critical to a child's development. Many of these kids who don't receive such care die, but some just fail to thrive, and grow into emotionally stunted husks of human beings who will never be anything but a burden to society. Can a pro-lifer honestly say that a mass of cells at the early stages of fetal development will suffer more being safely and efficiently terminated than a fully-developed child will being beaten and starved.
And besides, outlawing abortion will not make abortion go away. There are people who will always choose to terminate a pregnancy for one reason or another. They'll just be doing so using methods that are dangerous if not deadly, like the iconic coat hanger. Fear, shame, hemorrhage, infection, is that suffering justified for the life-to-be?
And while we're at it, why do some pro-lifers avidly support death penalties? Why is a life precious in the womb, but not as a fully matured, flawed human being?
I don't know, and I don't understand...
