So i put out a call for help on Facebook stating, " Meredith Levine misses Indiana. I had way more of a social life there. I feel like grad school is sucking the youth out of me and it is only Week 2." Which is totally true.
My life thus far had become Friday happy hours at Napa Valley Grill with the cohort and maybe a lunch or two on campus as my only social interaction with my peer group. I spend an hour each way when I take the bus to campus, so that is draining and time consuming. By the time I get home I need to do my reading, watch TV for the night and then go to bed promptly at 10 or 11pm because I know I have to get up early to get to class and be a functioning human being. Sidenote: I realized I am way more emotionally stable when I get a proper amount of sleep.
Megan came to my rescue and said she was going to do something with Noel, so we could totally do something with Team Grad School (referencing a game night at Megan's place not too long ago when we played Balderdash and the three of us were on a team). Noah joined us as well and we decided we needed food and booze.
Then we had a car adventure. Noel was the last person to arrive and so it would be easiest if he drove because his car was blocking ours in the driveway. We get down the street and try to turn the corner when his car fails, in an epic, something just feel out or broke and is now dragging on the ground sort of way.
We take my car to the Beverly Center and have dinner at Grand Lux. It was made of social life. Bitching about school. Squeeing about school. Catching everyone up on our respective love lives. Margaritas and tons of leftovers were to be had. I am kind of liking that I am establishing a social life in LA that doesn't revolve around my cohort so when I feel like they are being pretentious I can escape to my circle of geeks. We decided we wanted to start gaming again and that we should round up the usual suspects to see if we can get something going on. Also we decided we wanted to take a whack at steampunk/cyberpunk type things.
We get back at late o'clock and stay up even later for Triple A to come, and even later to talk about this season of television. I drove Noah home and got in around 2AM.
Nothing like staying out past your bedtime and drinking followed by being sleep deprived in the morning to make you feel young again. And now, day two of the garage sale and perhaps Ghostbusters at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery tonight.
