Harry was alone tonight. Ginny had insisted on going back to her apartment above the shop for tonight. 'It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.' He couldn't help but shake his head and grin at that. But whatever she wished, he supposed, it wasn't like he couldn't manage on his own for a night.

Just having finished the dishes, Harry had settled down on the sofa for some peaceful and quiet time with a book. He had barely gone through the half of the first chapter, before someone rang the doorbell. With a sigh, he closed the book and stood up to answer the door.

Pulling it open, he came face to face with his father. 'So much for a quiet night.' He grimly thought. He leaned against the doorframe, his arms loosely crossed in front of his chest, not saying a word.

James peered at his son, the one so like him according to Sirius and Remus, yet who looked at him as though he were a stranger. Then again, he was a stranger. He didn't have to take Harry's expression in fully to understand that; this young man was a stranger to him as well, in all but genetics. He felt it, deep in the part of the soul reserved for family connections, the empty place where Harry should be.

James shoved his hands in his pockets and sighed. "I know I'm the last person you want to see, but I would really like to attend your wedding without fear of getting my head blasted off by a curse."

Confrontations. Harry didn't really feel the urge to deal with confrontations at all at the moment, but the foolish man at the door was still his father. And possibly, that was all which kept Harry from slamming the door in his face.

He grunted something, then stepped aside. "Come on in." He coolly said, before turning around and going back to the sitting room. "Please close the door behind you, I don't want the cold to come in." Entering the sitting room, he wandered over to the liquor cabinet, taking out a tumbler glass and a bottle of Firewhiskey. He didn't like to drink much, but this might, after all, require a stiff drink.

Again, he sighed, and entered, obeying Harry's order to close the door. A little passed the closed door, he fidgeted, glancing about to take in the home of his son, and not sure if he were also invited to sit down.

Watching Harry take out the Firewhiskey and winced. Really, he didn't want to think he drove Harry to drinking, in any capacity. He hid his nerves by balling his hands into fists in his pockets, then stepped further into the room. His throat cleared, almost involuntarily.

"So...." How to start talking without pissing Harry off even more?
