Complete: Complete.

James stood outside Harry's house long enough to be considered a stalker in the event of any nosy neighbors. He stood there because he refused to let himself walk away this time; Harry's wedding was the next day, so this had to happen today if James wanted to be there to watch his son marry Ginny Weasley. He should probably also meet his daughter-in-law-to-be, but had a feeling that would go over much better once he'd made peace with Harry.

If he could make peace with Harry.

Really, he had thought Harry would understand. After four years of listening to Sirius and Remus tell him how much Harry had grown up to be like him, James just assumed Harry would understand everything. Obviously, from Harry's reaction at the Festival, that was not the case. To think, he had a son who shared his values but didn't understand his motivations. Then again, neither had Lily, and they'd had years to talk about their values and motivations, both before their deaths and after. It still grated at him that after all this time, his wife hadn't understood him.

This wasn't about Lily, he reminded himself. This was about Harry. His son, his grown son, who grew up without his father, but grew up anyway. His son who didn't need him. The more he thought about Harry, the more he wondered if he and Harry really shared the same values at all, or if Sirius and Remus were just a bit biased.

Well, he had to find out eventually. After standing outside for close to half an hour, James finally found the courage to force his feet forward, up the stairs, across the porch and to the door. He lifted a hand to knock, but then saw the little button on the side of the door, and decided to press the doorbell instead. And he waited.
