He heard the door open and close, and steps going upstairs. He cursed for perhaps the twentieth time and began to rush, trying in vain to clean everything up before Lily could come downstairs and see the carnage.
Too late. His goose... more cooked than the chicken.
"Um... making dinner?" he said with a sheepish squeak. He smiled hesitantly, and wiped at his forehead, only to smear the chocolate and syrup again.

"And what exactly were you trying to make?" She glanced at the chicken and the vegetables. Lily made a face, then looked at James enquiringly and suspiciously. "Since when do you cook?"

"Honey mustard chicken and roasted vegetables," he muttered in response to her question. He knew it was her favorite, and had wanted to make something she'd like. He'd been tempted to just order take-in and pretend he'd done it, but no, he just had to make it himself. "I'll clean up, Lily, I promise. And I'll order something so you don't have to cook."
Now, of course, she would be even more angry with him than before. He sighed, shoulders slumped, and went to retrieve the mop to clean up the sauce.

"Maybe we should eat our dinner before it gets cold, hmm?" She patted his head, like she would a good dog, and got up from his lap. Then she looked at their dinner and grimaced. "Too late." She sighed and took out her wand, casting a heating charm on the food. Immediately steam began to rise from the plates again and the smell of the food reached her nose. It smelled so good.

Then she got up, and he pouted. Still, the food did smell good, and he was hungry, especially after such an emotional confrontation. He reached for his silverware and plate, all the while hoping in the back of his head that his conversation with Harry would go so well.

"You would want a tail, wouldn't you. Just so that you could wag it. Now I actually wonder whether I married a dog or a man." Lily eyed him with a smirk.

He cut his sandwich in half, then proceeded to pick up one half and take a very large bite out of it. Confrontation had him famished, and he had that half devoured in moments, quickly beginning on the second half. Ah, the joys of having a man in the house again.
He swallowed a bite, and said, "Oh yeah, I also tried to make chocolate and strawberry mousse. Actually, I think that came out better than the chicken."
