Happy Holidays?

I keep telling myself that tomorrow it will feel like Christmas, because tomorrow I am going to drag my siblings out and find a Christmas tree. Right now it just feels like winter. Sunny winter.

Monday evening I started feeling sick again, much to my dismay. I hardly slept that night, plagued by feverish dreams and general sleeplessness, and then got to get up at 6:30, take the train up to San Francisco, and work with my father. I was exhausted, miserably sick, probably had a fever, felt like a zombie, and had a runny nose. It was not the most pleasant day. My father made me cocoa at break, though, because he is an excellent father and a very nice boss. ^_^ Jake made me go to sleep early (10:00 is early, right?) and I gave myself permission to sleep in as long as I wanted and not feel guilty, which is why I didn't get up until 11:00. Thirteen hours in bed did me a world of good, and by Thursday, when I had to get up at 5:30, go up to the city again, and spend all day hanging Christmas garlands with my father and the Wombats and an excellent volunteer, I was feeling almost human again.

Eight hours spent fighting with Christmas decorations is enough to make anyone feel a little grinchy. By sometime around threeish, insanity had started to set in, and Wombats and I were reduced to gnawing on each other. I went for her skull at least once, because I had the zombie death cold. I carried on my hatred of the stupid fake pomegranates that like to come unattached from the garlands and plummet to the floor (Wombats dubbed them pomegranate grenades.) Meanwhile, Wombats discovered that she did not work well with the fake olives that also adorn the garlands (hint: she tended to accidentally destroy them.) Also, when you are very tired, want the day to be over ("can has end of day nao?") and have an extra spray of fake berries/rosehips/pomegranates to stuff into a garland, the phrase "Okay, which part needs to be more fruity?" is quite funny.

I am actually going to have my sister's Christmas present done on time. Go me! I might manage to get Jake's done too. Amazing.

However, I am not doing Christmas cookies this year. I haven't even started to think about them, and I'm still coughing horribly, and I don't think anyone wants me coughing into their cookies. So instead I'm doing New Years' cookies. Or perhaps Russian Orthodox Christmas cookies. Either way, at some point in the next few weeks, I will go on a crazed baking spree. Just not right now.
