So on my night off from Boheme and opera land
soylahtayplease and I went to see Kane play at Antone's. The guy that played before Kane was great fun, could sing in tune and knew what the audience really wanted. He was cute. And then Kane come on at about 10:00. They started with "House Rules" and played some of his newer stuff - "Different Kind of Knight" is the one I can remember and one about a girl from high school who called him up but I don't remember the name of that song. Then some of their older stuff, "Spirit Boy," "Rattlesnake Smile," "Middle America." I think they did "Seven Days," but I could be making that up. They also did a cover of Luckenbach, Texas. I did take some pictures but only a few and they are not great. So, I share them with you just so you can see what it was like - not because I think they are good.
Chris was getting sick and his voice was definitely a little the worse for wear but he soldiered through by chugging Jack Daniels.
soylahtayplease and I had fun playing the spot the LA folks in the crowd. It's amazing how easy it was. There was the usualy fangirl contingency and then in the back were all the suits and producers of the film that Chris had done that was playing at the Austin Film festival (including ex-senator Bill Bradley). Clayne Crawford, one of his co-stars on the film, was in attendance as well.
Around the time I went up to get close enough to take pictures Chris started talking about being an American and loving American women. And some woman standing behind me shouted "What about Europeans?" He didn't hear her the first time but once it was understood all the guys on stage pointed at Steve, saying he was the one who loved the European ladies. It was a lot of fun and Steve and Chris were clearly enjoying the time on stage and making music and bantering between songs.
