I just canceled Henry's guitar lessons*, and I'm having some problem with their record keeping versus what makes sense to me. He started the lessons in September, and we paid for a whole month. Last week I gave them the check for October, but he's not finishing out October. The store says that we are "even", but by my reckoning, they owe half of October's fees back to me. If they have some kind of policy about cancellation fees, that's fine, then phrase it like that. But don't tell me that he's taken all the lessons that were paid for and act like I'm an idiot who doesn't understand math.
*I don't know enough about music to know whether my complaint about their methodology is justified, but the main reason he lost interest is that the teacher was not teaching him how to play any recognizable tune. He's been taking class for six weeks, and all she focuses on is positioning of his fingers on the strings. He catches on to the fingering right away, and then she wants him to practice this fingering over and over for a week. When Declan started coronet, the teacher combined basic skills with songs, so Declan felt like he was playing music right away. Henry snapped last week and flat out refused to continue the lessons because he doesn't feel like he's "good" at the guitar.
