Last Year of the Decade is Here: 2010

Jan 01, 2010 03:23

This time of year is always hard for me. It's dark early. It's cold. I live alone (well, not entirely. I have a lovely beagle, but he doesn't speak English so good). All I want to do is hibernate. Ha ha! So it's great that the rolling over of the new year allows me a chance to make excuses to DO SOMETHING TO BETTER MY LIFE! Last year (and the year before too), I ate 12 grapes as the last seconds counted down. This year, I forgot to buy grapes and fell asleep on the couch -- a warm beagle snuggling by my feet. Why yes I am a rock star. ;D

Without further adieu, here are my public resolutions for 2010 (because I do have some private goals that I'm just not ready to share):
  1. Learn to play the guitar. (Learn at least the 12 major and 12 minor chords.)
  2. Travel somewhere new (even if it's in the USA).
  3. Post snarky travel vids on youtube. Possibly introduce the world to the awesomeness that is my dog, Brody.
  4. Finish reading the following books (that have haunted me for years!): The Aenied, The Divine Comedy, and Brisingr.
  5. Send in passport documents! DO THIS NOW! OMG!
  6. Take better care of self in these six easy steps:
    • eat healthier (less sugar; more veg)
    • work out 3x a week / yoga 1x a week (vacation and injury notwithstanding)
    • sleep at night (um, I'm not kidding. I can't do it.)
    • socialize more in the real world
    • learn to cook something new every month (make other people eat it)
    • indulge and have yourself a pedicure every now and then (running's hard on the feets, yo)
  7. Convince dad to illustrate the sekrit project I'm working on.
  8. Train for a marathon (Colfax Marathon in 2011, to be exact -- the one in 2010 is too soon).
  9. Take more photographs. The world is sexy and amazing and out there!
  10. Polish WIP, snag an agent, and get a book deal.
  11. Write 3 novellas (10k-ish) this year, and get at least one published in a paying market (print or online).
  12. Continue to hone craft by practicing with a Saturday Short once a month.

2010: I'm ready for you. Surprise me! Delight me! I promise I'll do my best not to let you down. :D

resolutions, new year
