Box Of Rain

So I've found one thing that confuses me more than anything else does. Boys/men/guys. They say that girls play games, but I think they're just as guilty as we are. And for the few girls like me who *try* to not play games, it turns into a mess.
How do you know if something only happened because you were drunk? How do you know when someone actually means "call me later" or if they're just being nice? How do you differentiate between friendly fun and obvious flirting? How do you know when someone *really* likes you if they don't express it like everyone else?
How do you truly know how *you* feel about someone? Is there an actual moment of realization? Or is it one of those "Oh, so that's what that is?" moments?
How do you keep your heart from leaping into your throat when you hear their voice on the other of the phone or when you see their name pop up when they sign into messenger? How do you keep yourself from thinking about them every waking second of every day - even in your dreams sometimes? How do you avoid being heartbroken when you realize that they're not as interested in you as you may have thought? How do you deal with rejection after rejection after rejection? How do you keep your sanity if you find out you were being used? How do you keep your self-confidence from shattering when you find out that you went out on a limb for nothing? How do you deal with dejection on a regular basis?
There are so many risks with love... Too many risks and no shin pads, helmets or big sticks to help us with it either. We just have to go blindly along, hoping that every moment that we think matters - does to the other person as well.
It's so unfair. Why can't things be easier? WHY CAN'T THINGS BE EASIER?! GAH! I'm so frustrated with the way society moves these days. I don't like the way humans interact with eachother anymore. What happened to calling on your friends to play? What happened to our innocence? Kids these days don't even call on their friends anymore - they phone them or IM them to see what they want to do. No one takes risks anymore! We're all too afraid of getting hurt, so we just avoid the risky stuff. Instead of climbing the cliff, we all look for a path that will eventually take us to the top, after hours and hours or twisting and turning pathways.
If we all got some climbing gear, knee pads, and helmets, we could face the risky business and actually do something interesting and worthwhile.
Anybody want to go rock climbing?
