On the amazingness of frozen yogurt
A new froyo place just opened up near my house a few weeks ago.
HOLY. SHIT.
It's part of a chain called Tutti Frutti, and it's THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER. Okay, for one thing it's just down from another incredible favorite of mine, OnlyBurger. OnlyBurger is a storefront for a food truck that makes the most incredible burgers I've tasted in my life, and is half-owned by my next door neighbors. (FUN FACT: it got second place in a Food Network food truck competition, but it was first place up until the very last minute.) So I can go to OnlyBurger, get an incredible pepperjack burger, then stay under the walkway and walk down to Tutti Frutti for dessert. Another incredible thing about Tutti Frutti, though, is that it's self-serve and pay-by-weight.
For those of you who've never done self-serve froyo before, let me explain. You walk in, grab an enormous cup, fill it with up to 16 batshit insane amazing flavors (though personally I prefer the creamy flavors to the tart ones), which change daily (green tea, taro, Death by Chocolate and raspberry pomegranate? SURE! A pint of nothing but banana? GO FOR IT!) Then you load it with brownie bits, candy, chopped fruit, cereal (they have FRUITY PEBBLES.), boba, Ghirardelli sauce... AND THEN YOU PAY 39 CENTS AN OUNCE AND REALIZE YOU COULD HAVE AFFORDED TWICE AS MUCH.
I'm eating that right now. The photo fails to do it justice, but that's Death by Chocolate, with TONS of peanut butter cups and mini gummi bears.
It cost me $3.83. Note that that's one of the small cups, and it's about four inches tall and five inches across.
Fuck yes.
The one sad thing is that my favorite flavor is one I've only had a bit of, on top of a bowl of Death by Chocolate-- red velvet cake. It's AMAZING. So rich and sweet and chocolatey and delicious. It honestly TASTES like red velvet cake, only BETTER. Unfortunately they don't have it very often, but I'm creeping on their Facebook page every morning waiting for them to post the flavors of the day.
