1. I mentioned
last time that our new cat, Jakob, has a broken upper canine tooth that, according to our veterinarian, must have happened to him quite some time ago, before he was taken, as a stray, to the animal shelter in Walworth County, WI, last December. I called the shelter last Friday and left a message for the director because we are unhappy that the shelter didn't catch the fact that the cat had a seriously broken tooth. I was about to give up hope that the shelter would call back, but around 1:30 today I got a call from the director herself. She had reviewed Jakob's file and discovered that when he was brought in, the vet tech noticed that he was already neutered, so she didn't even given him a cursory exam. A veterinarian on contract with the shelter gave Jakob a rabies vaccination, but nobody looked in his mouth o_O Director admitted that someone should have caught this. Therefore, the shelter is going to take care of this at no cost to us, other than the cost of getting him to the shelter, which could possibly be accomplished by delivering him back to PetSmart, which someone from the shelter visits twice a week. I won't know until next week when this might occur. Will keep y'all posted.
2.
This guy reminds me of an old dude who died a few years ago, who used to come to meetings at my agency and try to tell us how to do our jobs because "I am a professor of chemistry and I wrote an introductory chemistry textbook that has been used by thousands of college students." Yes, Wally, you did, but you were a chemist, not an atmospheric scientist or atmospheric chemist. So, fail. And fail, Mr. Carlin.
3. As we have no vacations planned this summer, due to lack of money, I'm taking a 4-day weekend over the 4th of July holiday. Since 4th of July falls on Saturday this year, our holiday leave time is "floating" so we can take it whenever we want. I'm taking it tomorrow and will take a personal holiday on Monday. So yay for a loooong weekend. I have plenty of errands to do tomorrow, most prominently getting my driver's license renewed and taking DD to a nearby community center so she can decide whether she wants to participate in a FREE "girl's club" afternoon thing that the center runs. She's skeptical, but I told her it was worth checking out, as it would give her something to do in the afternoons during several weeks this summer. She will have drama workshop (same as last year) July 20-31 in the afternoons, and Girl Scout camp (sleepaway! Yay!) in northern Wisconsin August 9-14, but she has nothing else planned so far for the rest of the summer *sigh* It's really hard to find appropriate, inexpensive activities for adolescents in this town.
4. Weather has been cool and cloudy lately, like high 50s??! It can warm up again any time, thank you. I know I complained about the heat last week, but it currently feels like late April rather than early July.
