1. Before I get into personal stuff, I hope all of my flisties in the path of Hurricane Ike are safe. Had I been down there, I would've evacuated without blinking an eye. I've been a bit out of touch about Ike the last 24 hours, so if you're in Ikeland and you're okay, give me a shout.

A little more than 2 weeks ago, we took
DD's pet rabbit, Fudge, to the vet because she had strange bleeding growths, sort of like giant rasperries, on her feet/paws, near the first toe. At that point the vet, Dr. Tom, gave us a prescription for antibiotics and told us to get rid of Fudge's litter and use sheets of newspaper. Well, Fudge didn't get much better in that time, though at least her growths stopped bleeding. And recently it seemed like she wasn't eating or drinking much and she was shedding horribly, which we thought could be some illness-related alopecia. So we got an appointment for Fudge this morning and took her in. This time Dr. Brittany examined Fudge, and she did some histology slides, basically made little scrapes across Fudge's growths and then looked at them under a microscope. It turns out that Fudge's growths are full of either mast cells or eosinophils, which Dr. B said probably means that Fudge had some sort of allergic reaction to something that had been touching her feet. The shedding, thank goodness, was simply normal fall shedding as Fudge loses her summer coat of fur and her winter coat grows in. Dr. B told us to give Fudge a half-dose of children's liquid benadryl twice a day, plus some fresh pineapple juice to deal with any furballs she might be getting due to grooming. We brought Fudge to Petsmart afterward and bought new litter called Yesterday's News, which is made from shredded newspaper (per Dr. B) and also a plastic "cave" for her to hide/burrow in. So Fudge is out on the deck in her cage ow, looking fairly happy. We just wish we knew what exactly is going on with her poor feet.

Mr. Annearchy is trying to hire some new workers for his book business because Steve quit suddenly, and Ian gave notice because he was expecting to get an offer for a great job. Mr. A set up something like 12 interviews across 4 days, and only 4 of those people actually showed up. Several called to say they had other job offers, but some just blew him off. Anyway, of the 4 interviews, there was only one person who was available enough hours initially, so he hired that guy, K, who started Monday. Well, K used Mr. A's laptop on Thursday because his own desktop computer had some problems. Mr. A got the problems fixed and put the laptop away in a place where K and Ian could see it. Then he left to go somewhere with me and DD. Last night Mr. A discovered that his laptop is missing. He and DD have looked all over the house but it's not here. We don't suspect Ian because I've known him since he was a baby and he's an honest and honorable person. So that leaves K...and Mr. A would rather not accuse him of taking the laptop but he might have to. And if it turns out K took the laptop, Mr. A will fire his ass. Then he'll have NO workers after Thursday, because that's when Ian is leaving. Oy. I hope it doesn't come to that.
