1.
WTF HELL NOOOO! Go away, Gustav. DO. NOT. WANT. Leave the Gulf Coast alone.
2. Fudgie is Fudge (aka Fudgita and Fudgie Wudgie), Darling Daughter's pet brown rabbit. Last night DD decided to clean the cages of Fudge and also her guinea pig, Albus Presley. When she brought Fudge inside while she was putting in new litter, she said, "Mom, look at Fudge's front foot. It's got something nasty on it."
Poor Fudge had a giant reddish lump the size of a marble on her left front paw, between either the first and second or second and third toes. I said we would bring Fudge to the vet this morning. So we brought Fudge in to the vet at 10 a.m. and when DD put Fudge in the basket to take her there, she noticed that the lump was now bleeding and raw-looking - and it seemed to have spread to her other 3 feet!! Nobody at the vet's office had any idea what was going on, not the tech or even Dr. Tom, the owner of the clinic. Dr. Tom said he'd never seen anything like it. Fudge very kindly left stool samples on the ancient towel in the basket, so the vet ran a quick test and determined that Fudge doesn't have parasites, which is good. But we really don't know what's going on, so Dr. Tom's technician took photos and Dr. Tom said he would ask around in an online veterinary forum. In the meantime we have to give Fudge a liquid antibiotic called Baytril twice a day for the next 2 weeks. When we got home DD cleaned out Fudge's cage again, and laid down newspaper (like you would for a puppy) per Dr. Tom's instructions. We have to call him in a week to check in, or sooner if Fudge has more problems. Dr. Tom did say that Fudge is a very gentle, mellow rabbit and she handled all the poking pretty well. But really, WTF on the lesions. I hope the vet can figure this out.
3. So by the time I helped DD get Fudge settled at home and then drove to work, it was close to noon. I was attempting to turn left at a major intersection and the light was green, but I didn't have a left turn arrow. However, the closest on-coming vehicle had its left turn signal on, so I assumed this huge moving van was planning to turn left in the opposite direction. However, the guy wasn't turning left; he was actually continuing straight. So there I was in the intersection with a semi-trailer bearing down on me, and I did the only thing I could to keep from getting killed -- I made a sharp left turn over the front edge of the median and just barely got out of the crazy truck driver's way. Man, my heart was pounding after that. I hope the drive home is less interesting.
