Barack 1, Gustav 0

1. That was one amazing fricking speech. Seriously. It gave me goosebumps. Too many wonderful parts to try to list here. Even Pat Buchanan and Bill Kristol (no liberals, they) were extremely impressed by Obama's speech last night. Anyway, to quote Barack, "Eight (years of the BushCo Crowd) is enough." Enough, already. Basta. I wonder if Bush will go to McCain's birthday party today and play guitar for him again? It worked really well 3 years ago.

2. Speaking of three years ago, today is the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. And just to make everyone really happy, stupid Gustav will probably make landfall early Monday morning. Looks like he'll hit south of Houma, LA, though I guess that could change once Gustav's out over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. At any rate, as far as I know, all of my remaining family members in New Orleans are evacuating this weekend. My dad is leaving today (driving alone, wah) to stay with his old Army buddy in Shreveport. One sister is going to Birmingham, AL. Another usually goes to Opelousas, LA, where her husband's sister lives, but that's just north of Houma, so maybe not. I'm not sure where the third sister is going; possibly to visit friends of her new husband. (The rest of my sisters live in Omaha, Tulsa and Charlotte, so they don't worry much about hurricanes.)

3. Cook-peeps - I am back on TWOP (Jacob the mad moderator be damned). Look for me there as squeeemish :)

4. I am being lazy today and taking the afternoon off. I'm going to take DD to see "Disaster Movie". Well, you know 12-year-olds; their taste in movies is questionable:)) Plus it's her last Friday before school starts so I thought it would be nice to spend some time together.

ETA 5. SARAH PALIN? This is McCain's pick for Vice President? Okay, it's official. McCain is off his rocker.
