Yay Turkey Day!

1. To all of you in the United States, it's time to eat turkey (or tofurkey? or whatever else you want) and maybe watch some football (Packers v. Lions, GO PACK!) and probably eat too much. And mostly it's a time to be thankful for the good things in your life.

I'm thankful for my family, the one I was born into, the one I married into and the one I've made with Mr. Annearchy, namely him and Darling Daughter. And for everything good in my life (too numerous to name). And for YOU people, who help me stay semi-sane. Love you all!

2. The Thanksgiving Eve service at church was very nice. The combined choirs sounded very good together. I stood next to a woman who was at least 6 feet tall and who asked me, "Are you a tenor?" in surprise. Yes, short women can be tenors too; I think I got my dad's deep vocal cords but my mom's ear for music (thank goodness, because Dad can't carry a tune in a bucket). Anyway after all that rehearsing for our "big" piece, the whole thing ended up taking maybe 3 minutes. (I told our choir director later, "Now that we know this song, I hope we're going to sing it again some time!") There was no children's choir after all, so at the last minute the sopranos had to learn the children's part, but at least that wasn't too hard, according one of them. We got home at 8:45 and because I had parboiled the sweet potatoes yesterday morning before I left for work, once I got home I simply had to preheat the oven, slice the sweet potatoes and layer them in the Corningware (along with butter and spices) while I made a simple syrup (did you know you can use bulk Splenda for that?), then pour the syrup over the sweet potatoes and bake them, covered, for 1 hour at 350F. So the sweet potatoes were baked by 10:15. I stayed up a lot later than that, watching TV with DD, but at least I can't blame the sweet potatoes :P

4. Okay, time to wake my layabout family (LOL) and get us ready to get on the road. We're driving 200 miles to Mr. A's cousin's house southwest of Joliet, Illinois. So that's probably going to be a 3 1/2 hour trip including a stop for lunch at a truckstop, because in small-town northern Illinois nothing else is open on Thanksgiving. Have a great day! I'll be back Friday afternoon - though now that I've got a decent cell phone I might do a voice post. *evil laugh*
