Monday miscellany

1. Well, I'm pretty happy about sports tonight:

Saturday (college football): Wisconsin 33, Indiana 3. Sorry, Hoosiers. I'm hoping the Badgers have stopped letting themselves be embarrassed on the football field this season.

Sunday: Red Sox beat the Rockies to sweep the World Series! I guess the Rockies, like the Cubs, will have to wait till next year. And it seems Boston has finally shaken the Curse of the Bambino.

Monday: Packers 19, Broncos 13, on an 82-yard touchdown pass on the first play in overtime. Packers are 6-1. My co-worker Greg must be happy; he and I have talked football for several years.

2. Darling Daughter got her brand-new cellphone taken away (as punishment) for the first time (note, she only got it last Wednesday). She brought home her interim grade report today, and while she had A's in English and Social studies and she'd raised her math grade from C to B, her science grade had slipped from C to D o_O I looked at the details of the science grades and when she bothered to turn her work in, she got decent grades - but apparently she hadn't turned in an entire project and got 0 for it. *sigh* I asked her what happened and she said the project was handed out the day she was home sick in early October. I asked why she didn't get the project later and she said, "The teacher never told me." I told her it was her responsibility, as the student, to find out specifically what she had missed that day. So the cellphone is shut off and in my possession until Friday. I told her that the grade wouldn't have been so bad if she honestly didn't know or understand the material, but the fact that she hadn't bothered to get the assignment was completely wrong. So I hope she learned something. She's a sharp kid and she ought to be able to get at least a B in science, IF she applies herself. It's the lack of doing any meaningful work that merited the punishment, rather than the grade itself.

football: badgers, rl: school, mlb: world series, football: packers, rl: dd
