1. I'm sending hugs and good wishes to everyone in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. So far I don't know anyone who was directly affected by the bridge collapse, and I hope that remains so, but I'm feeling very sad for the whole Twin Cities area and everyone who has been affected. Why do I have the feeling our infrastructure is crumbling around us and woefully inadequate to protect public health and safety? Maybe because it is. We've got to get a grip on this craziness of not spending money to keep our highways and bridges safe. *flails*
2. This morning I got up at 4:00 a.m. and took my darling daughter to the airport for a 6:30 a.m. flight to visit her paternal grandparents in Florida. Everything went well, and she was personally escorted onto the plane by the guy who works at the gate desk after a slightly teary goodbye. Yeah, I know she's almost 11 and already taller and bigger than I am, but she's still (and always will be) my little girl and my only child, and this is her first time flying by herself. I told her to call me at work once she's off the plane and her grandparents have found her (either at the gate, if they're able to get gate passes, or in the baggage claim if they don't). *teeth chatter* Fortunately (thanks to my paying a chunk of money for this) she's being chaperoned on both of her plane changes (to and from) in Atlanta. I'm glad the airlines don't allow minors to roam airports by themselves.
disasters,
darling daughter
