1. Was awakened at 5:55 a.m. by a thunderstorm. It woke up the kid too. She wanted me to come down to her room, but it was time for me to get up so I let her crawl into our bed. She's been sleeping next to Mr. Annearchy since 6:00. Thunderstorm finally seems over. I puttered around, made lunches, played on the computer, and finally had a quick shower about 15 minutes ago.
2. My 82-year-old father is driving ALONE from Tulsa, OK, to New Orleans. He spent the past 6 weeks in suburban Tulsa with one of my sisters; this was his way to avoid the end of hurricane season in New Orleans. After his diaspora experience last year, he was reluctant to be there during what's normally the height of the season. Of course, because he left early, there was nary a storm. If he'd stayed I'm sure something would have hit the city. Anyway, he left Tulsa Monday morning and reached Shreveport that night. He's staying with his friend BB, whom he's known since their Army days *insert Band of Brothers music and my t00by love of Damien Lewis here* I'd be a lot happier if he would fly, rather than drive such long distances alone. It's the alone part that worries me. He's always been a pretty good driver, but his reflexes are slower than they used to be and sometimes he just doesn't see a stop sign or a traffic light. I don't want him to become one of those old people who lives in reasonably good health until he's 90, then dies in a traffic accident because he missed something :( My six sisters and I have decided to get him a new set of luggage for Christmas. We must feel fairly confident about his general health to do that ;)
