1. Stayed home from work yesterday because Maya was STILL SICK DAMMIT. Now, finally, she's well enough to go back to school Monday. Actually I told her yesterday that the only thing that would keep her home from school Monday was projectile vomiting or a temp of 102. Last night we attended a "circle dinner" of several couples from church. Originally it was supposed to include two other families, but one woman and her daughter dropped out, then another family moved back to Indiana last weekend, so Maya is now the only kid in the group. We wanted to invite her friend M from across the street, but M couldn't come. Anyway, the folks who hosted the meal, Bob and Kelly, have 2 large dogs, and Maya loves dogs, so she was happy:) Then after dinner she went into their family room and watched THE INCREDIBLES while the grownups talked. We're hosting the next dinner, on January 14th. If I start cleaning the house tomorrow, it *might* be presentable by then *headdesk* I told Maya she can invite M or KH or someone else and have a slumber party that night.
2. I spent about 5 hours shopping today, though only half of that was Christmas shopping *pets
slytherincess, whose feet are even more sore than mine* I was pretty successful in my Christmas shopping but I still have more to do. There's one thing Maya wants that I can't seem to find in stores so I'll have to look for it online, which means I'd better buy it tomorrow if I want to receive it before Christmas. Maya kept asking me today, "So where did you hide my presents?" It took forever to get her to bed. I should go wrap the gifts I bought for her, like, right now, while she's in bed and not roaming around. I also bought a bunch of stuff for Mr. Annearchy. I think I'm done buying for him. Now if only someone would give me a clue about what I should get for my parents.
3. Speaking of my mother (who is known in our family as "Ree", short for Marie), yesterday's mail brought a thick packet from a social worker in North Carolina. It was a lengthy assessment (like 15-pages) of Ree's current physical and mental condition, which is, alas, not too promising. The list of physical and mental problems was about 4 lines long. One of the worst problems is that Ree is completely unaware of how bad off she is (an actual psychological condition that, apparently, isn't uncommon in elderly patients). So she will get frustrated by what she perceives as people condescending to her because of her current limitations. *sigh* The report also included several pages on living options in the Charlotte area; I'm glad that our parents were smart enough to buy long-term-care insurance some years ago, because the living options could cost a big bundle of money. The decision of where to live will really be up to my dad, but all 7 of us daughters were copied on the report so we can advise and support him. It's so frustrating to be so far away.
