My congregation had 5 families who were indirectly affected by Hurricane Katrina, via extended family members. Tonight, we held a fund-raiser to help the affected family members; it was a musicale featuring songs about or written by people from the Gulf Coast, especially New Orleans. I was part of the entertainment; about half-way through, I got up and led the crowd doing a bit of a conga line/second line to When The Saints Go Marching In. Then I sang the old Dixie Cups song,
Iko Iko, with audience help on the chorus. There was still another hour of music after that. A lot of it was well done (this WAS a very amateur production). So I didn't get home until about 10:20 p.m.
Tomorrow we have to shop for groceries in the morning (ugh) because I have to take Maya to a birthday party from 1:00 to 4:00 on the other side of town. So that will pretty much shoot my afternoon. Guess I'll bring a book to read or something. The party is at a roller-rink. I happen to love roller-skating, but Maya is worried I might break my leg and have to miss TWH. She's a funny kid.
Did anyone watch Jay Leno? Constantine Maroulis (sp?), from American Idol, was on. He sang Bohemian Rhapsody (I think) with about 200 background singers and a lead guitarist who knew every guitar lick. It was an excellent production number. Is there a Queen musical that Constantine is performing in? It seemed like it.
Arrgh. Tired. Must sleep.
