OK, fine!

Time to do some updating regarding the Japan thing.

Yes, I am still going! I checked in with the consulate and everything's ok. I can turn in my passport late and still leave on time. I may have to go to Houston at the end of this week and line up at 5 a.m. outside the Passport Agency to get an emergency passport, but that won't be a problem. My dad offered to drive down with me and we'll stay at my aunt's. Visa applications only take a couple of days. Everything's cool.

I have been in contact with my new supervisor and co-workers and am totally stoked. I'll be going to Aomori City, way way up at the very top of Honshu. The city has a population of 300,000: just right. It seems like a great place to live! The only thing is, there's a LOT of snow in the winter. But then, I had requested Hokkaido so this is the next best thing! I also found out about where I'll be living. I've got a comfy little studio apartment that's already fully furnished, on a busy street surrounded by shops and restaurants.

My job sounds like it'll be fun but sometimes (of course) frustrating. I'm not based at one school but rather at the Aomori City Board of Education. I'll be visiting a lot of different schools. Mon-Thurs will be a middle school visit, and Fridays will be for elementary school visits. The first month I'm there will still be summer vacation, so I can just spend that time settling in and building relationships with my co-workers.

On one side of Aomori City is the beach, on the other side is mountains! There's great skiing and snowboarding there in the winter, things that I definitely want to try. I'm excited! Ok, that's all I have for now!
