An outing in Paris

I've become increasingly addicted to the Sartorialist fashion blog (http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/). I love that this guy takes real pictures of real people, regardless of age. Fashion is an art form and too many Americans forget this. Fashion isn't about the designer or the trend, it's about quality fabric, a nice cut, and clothes that both fit your body and your personality. Trends are fun, but if you can't wear them in your own way (and in a way that suits you), why try?

I'm especially excited about the Sartorialist's collection of Paris photographs from recent weeks. The below day suit floored me when I saw it. Perfect cut and fit with amazing pattern detail in the fabric. Every man should own a black suit AND a gray suit (yes, you heard me: a gray is a dapper essential for day events). But, any man who has the personal style to buy something like the gray in the picture, will earn my esteem forever.

Next, I think this dress/hat/bag ensemble is perfection. Before you say it, I know the hat is a little much and I admit it would look absurd on some people, but it just works here. Maybe it's the girl, maybe it's Paris, but it works. Her dress is conservative and sensible, her bag is structured with a hint of playfulness, and her hat is all-out whimsy.

So, be brave, America! Wear your heart on your sleeve (or your dress, or your suit, or even those amazing shoes that you feel silly for buying and they haven't left your closet because of it)! I say, when in America, do as the Parisians would do!
