(no subject)
Last night during dinner our power went out. It was really weird to see the entire neighborhood so dark, so cold. I don't think we've ever had a power shortage during the winter before. I ended up driving over to Rood and Becky's later, which is a huge accomplishment for me: rain, very wet roads, dark, never driven there before...I know it's not a big deal to most, but for me to step out of my comfort zone and drive out there, afraid, and actually make it okay...it's a nice feeling. We watched The Devil Wears Prada and drank wine, talked for several hours afterwards while their kitten pounced our feet. It was weird without Ryan being there, but it was still fun regardless. Lots of bonding.
Tonight Megan comes into town if weather allows, and we're all going out to dinner later. Hopefully Ryan will be here for it. One last time the group is all together for a while.
Luckily, the power came back on when I was gone. The heating didn't come back on until this morning, though, so lots of blankets were needed for a while.
A lot of tree branches have fallen, some shattering windows to houses and one missing my car by a foot. Scary. Our yard is like an arboreal graveyard. The climbing tree that I played in as a kid is scarcely that anymore.
