Are you talking about stuff like bolding and italics? Because if so, you're probably just using the HTML editor (I think I saw something about them switching to it as their default for the update page). See if you can find something that says "Rich Text".

Thanks for the suggestion! The problem was that I didn't have the "Rich Text" option to choose anymore. But I figured out that I needed to update my browser and that took care of it. Yay!

Re your posting query, it sounds as though you need to click on the Rich Text box to change the method of posting from HTML. Though I very rarely post via the LJ interface, preferring to use Semagic (http://community.livejournal.com/ljwin32_sema/).
