Erin's Big Lesson

Nov 06, 2008 10:09

Yesterday was very productive, and Glenn and I managed to go to Walgreen's to finally develop pictures,WalMart Optical (story that I'll save for later),and Menards to get new rakes and lawn bags, and then got a late McD's lunch on the way back home before Shawn arrived. After we ate,Shawn and Glenn went to play football catch, and I came out later to help rake and bag the front yard's leaves that I had raked the other day. Later the girls even helped, and with all of us we bagged the entire front lawn! I'm glad too, because of the rain we have today. My goal was to at least get the front done before the rain today and we did!

Glenn went to get something for dinner at the store but eating after he got back was pre-empted by a hard lesson Erin learned. I had fed "our" stray cat "Bradley Kitty" outside, and then Shawn said he heard the kitty growling at another cat,so we looked out and lo and behold,a rather large orange and white striped kitty looking much like my late runt pet kitty Garfield (but on steroids) and/or pinkpiper222's Princess P (only MEAN) was out there prowling around near the porch. Shawn and I went out to try to scare it away but it didn't seem to care so we just kept an eye on it and decided to bring kitty in to the foyer to eat so that we wouldn't have to stand out there and have to worry about a cat fight breaking out. Besides,B. Kitty could eat in peace that way.

I was doing some other things (including trying to decide what to eat for sure) and had asked Erin to just stay in the living room and let me know when kitty was done with her food so we could let her outside. I was in the kitchen when all of the sudden I heard somebody crying rather loudly and realized it was Erin. Come to find out that the stranger cat was peering in from the porch and Erin thought it was cute so she went out to pet it.

It attacked and bit her on the hand on her palm below the thumb and dug it's claws into her arm,so not only was she surprised and shocked but also hurt, and she was crying pretty good. I looked up "cat bites" on the Internet and from the info I read we decided I should take her to our local OSF PromptCare to get it checked out. We arrived at 7:00 and got home at 8:45 so we were there awhile, but they got her all checked out and cleaned up and gave her a script for a 3-day liquid antibiotic she has to take twice a day.

Big Lesson Learned For Sure!!

While I was tending to her before we went to OSF,Glenn went out to scare it off and would you believe it lunged at him too?! Didn't get him but it wasn't afraid of him at all! The OSF nurse called Animal Control (their policy) so hopefully the AC peeps will find it and make sure it doesn't have rabies. Not only that but the harrassing kitty witty won't be out on the street prowling like that. Bad kitty!! >(

I kept thinking of that movie "Kujo",and instead of a dog it's a cat. *LOL*

Well,I just got a call from Animal Control and she said they need to set a live trap to try to get the attacking kitty so Bradley Kitty is in the garage eating right now. We now have a choice: either keep Bradley Kitty as an indoor/garage pet and get him/her registered or hand him/her over to AC. Glenn has said he doesn't want an indoor cat so it's something we will have to discuss. She politely told me that anyone caught continually feeding an outdoor stray can get a $100 fine. Duly noted!! :)

I knew "outdoor" cats weren't legal around here, but how can ya say no to this face??

"Get it Bradley Kitty,get it!"

I also ratted out the possible point of origin of the "neighborhood cats" we have around here--the big house at the very end of our street--and if they get slapped with fines I hope they don't find out it was me who told on 'em!! =/

In other news,I've had bathroom troubles all morning, and have to wonder if I'm turning into my Mother! HA! I don't even have the usual abdominal cramps, just the sneaky I-need-to-get-to-the-bathroom problem. Irritating. To be honest I still haven't felt 100% better since my illness on Saturday, and like I said the other day I don't think the bug's done with us yet... :(

Well best go. I have to get dressed and do some things around here while waiting for the Animal Control rep to come over (not that I have to be here, but I probably should be). Fun fun!

Have a great day and I will chat later!
