So far so good in the new year.
I have been swimming regularly, three times last week and yesterday (Monday). The city pool now has two kids' swim teams practicing every day between 4 and 6 pm, so there are only 2 lanes left for us lap swimmers. Argh! The masters swimmers always invite me to join them when we cross paths in the locker room, but they don't start their session until 6:30, and I want to be home then getting dinner. Yesterday, they were talking about which triathlons they want to do during '09! Go, girls!
I got the box full of scarves sent off the Special Olympics yesterday! The yarn ministry made a total of 23 scarves! The NCSO has put up a nice article about our project on their website. We had a chance to meet a skier for Team USA who lives not far from us at meeting in December, an event set up by the NCSO publicity person.
I also got started on the research for a write-up about a house for the guidebook for the annual historic homes tour in May. I discovered that some printed information is incorrect, and the family history is even more interesting than it seemed! The house is a very nice looking bungalow built c. 1923 for a newly-wed couple on a corner of the huge lot around the grand 1911 mansion built by the bride's parents. Her father had made his fortune in tobacco, textiles, and railroads. The other daughter and her husband and family lived forever in the mansion with her widowed mother, then their sons lived successively in the bungalow after WWII with their brides. The family were very successful in the '50s in the air conditioning business (it is North Carolina!), and eventually they all moved to a very exclusive suburb. I'm looking forward to meeting the current homeowners and learning what they know about the house and its history more recently.
