Shrove Tuesday

Today finally feels and looks like winter here in the Hfx. There was a light dusting of snow down and with the wind chill it finally his -20 (I think)

This is exactly how I would like to enter Lent, a time of fasting and preparation. It’s cold out but bright, it is winter, but we’re looking towards spring. A feast of pancakes tonight then ashes tomorrow... people coming together as a community then remembering their solitude in death. Such an interesting contrast eh?

I really do love the Ash Wednesday service… there’s something so humbling and so moving to be reminded that we are simply of this earth and that no matter what we do, what we accomplish, our body will die and return to the earth. There’s nothing to fear in that, there’s nothing to be gained or lost… it just is death and it can’t be ignored. We live in a society so terribly void of death. We believe that we can put it off and put it off, but our bodies will eventually expire under the strain of life.

All of this being said, I love life and I am so thankful for the life I have.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord life up the light of his countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen. - Numbers 6: 24-26

One of my favorite passages.

May peace be with you all this day of Feasting, and may peace carry you forward through your journey here on Earth.
