Wicked: The Second Time Around

Dec 14, 2006 16:00

Well, yesterday, December 13th, I watched Wicked for the second time. Thus, I am posting a second review.

Cast
Glinda: Megan Hilty
Elphaba: Shoshana Bean
Fiyero: Cliffton Hall
Morrible: Alma Cuervo
Wizard: PJ Benjamin
Nessarose: Deedee Magno Hall *confirmed*
Boq: Josh Lamon
Dillamond: Paul Slade Smith

- While we were waiting for the show to start, this incredibly vapid girl asked me " How do you know all this stuff?" when I told her how long it was, to which I replied: "I've seen this before." Haha, PWNED! Edit because I suddenly remembered: Then I started talking again, about musicals, and she starts making snide comments. Rude much?

- Our seats were crappy. =(  I sat in the mezzanine, Row V, seat 148.

- No One Mourns the Wicked was awesome.

- The Wizard And I. Not so good. I don't exactly know why, I just didn't enjoy it that much. Everybody else seemed to like it, though.

- What is this Feeling? Great, as usual. I loved Shoshana's cackle after she said "Boo!" to Galinda.

- Dancing Through Life. Nothing particularly special, except.... When Galinda asked Morrible why Elphaba had insisted she be in Sorcery class, Morrible was all " I HAVE NO IDEA!" Seriously, she kind of shouted it.

- While I'm at it, let me tell you something far less funny that happend shortly after that. You know when Elphaba comes in the ballroom and there's complete silence? Well, at that moment, for me, there wasn't. And do you know why? Because some moronic guy had his mp3 player turned on, and was listening to it! Ugh. Then that vapid girl I mentioned told him to turn it off and, surprisingly, he did. But....grr.

- Popular was good. However, it was much funnier the first time.

- Mention of the vapid girl again. You see, around this time (I think) she had taken out her cell phone and was looking at it, or something. I was sitting diagonal from her, in the row above. Thus, I could see her incredibly bright cellphone screen, which I didn' t appreciate. I mean, hello, cellphones are supposed to be off. And just because you're not calling someone doesn't mean it's not distracting! Plus, it's kind of hypocritical when you told that guy to turn his mp3 player off, when you have your cellphone on.

- Doctor Dillamond's leaving and the lion cub scene were awesome. I liked how Elphaba and  Fiyero move at the same time, when he  tries to grab the cage to "get the cub to safety", and they're like "oo, awkward" because of what just happened between them.

- I'm Not That Girl. It was good, but I especially like the part where Fiyero and Galinda pass overtop the bridge.

- The train scene. Elphaba gave Fiyero a thumbs up again! Haha, so funny.

- One Short Day. Great, as it was last time. Some of my classmates laughed at the Wizomania part, where all those creatures with long necks came out. Hehe.

- A Sentimental Man. The actor who plays the Wizard is great. Period. Well, actually, he was also great when I watched it the first time, I should really edit that post....I still prefer him in Wonderful, probably because I like that song more than this one.

- Anyway, back on topic. Defying Gravity. Total Awesomeness. I think I enjoyed it more then, than I did the first time. Seriously, I was shaking afterwards from the exhileration. I loved everything leading up to when Elphaba " flew" up, especially the "It's mee!" line.  And everything after, and especially the flying part. So cool.

- Intermission. My friends came over to talk to me. My guy friend hated it, and his feelings did not change at the end. My other friend, who is a girl, loved it ,and later said that Fiyero was hot. How she could have determined that from where she was sitting, I don't know, but oh well.

-  Thank Goodness. Wonderful, as it was last time.

- Wicked Witch of the West. Great. Nessa really showed emotion, and Boq was adorable as the tin man.

- Wonderful. Great, also like last time. It wasn't as fun watching Elphaba and the Wizard dance, but it was still awesome.

- The scene with the guards. Personally, I thought that Fiyero was a bit weak, but then I never really liked Clifton Hall that much to begin with.

- As Long As You're Mine. I'll be honest, I felt a bit embarassed watching this with my classmates. Throughout the entire performance I was always half-leaning out of my chair to get a better view, where I didn't care what anyone thought and this was the only scene where I was trying to look like I wasn't watching it too closely. But it was good.  Edit: Two of my classmates apparently wanted "more action" between Elphaba and Fiyero, as stated by them at the end of the scene. You know who you are. I was kinda thinking "perverts", but then,  don't we all want the same?

- I absolutely loved Fiyero after they were finished singing, and were just talking. " Elphaba, we are going to be together always. You can see houses flying through the sky, can't you see that?"

- The catfight scene. Loved it. My class was all "ooo" when Glinda said "Well, it seems like a lot of us are taking things that don't belong to them, lately."and when she first slapped Elphaba. Needless to say, they enjoyed it, and I did too.

- No Good Deed. Shoshana Bean really delivered. Actually, it was basically kind of the same as the last time I saw it, but with such an awesome song and performer, it's all good.

-  March of the Witch Hunters. Nothing much to say here, really. Except that I love group songs.

- For Good. Very touching, friendship-y. Basically as great as it was last time, if slightly less visible because of those crappy seats.

Other Notes (Mainly on people)

- Major Edit: According to Wikipedia here, Deedee replaced Jen Waldman as Nessa the day before (Dec. 12) so that means that I saw one of her first performances! *confetti*

- Edit: During Popular, one of  the classmates near me was comparing this other girl to Galinda. LOL

- I'm not the only one in my school who's seen Wicked twice. My Math teacher has also seen it once before, and she got the Galinda understudy that time, so she noticed the difference right away this time. Apparently the understudy isn't as good as Megan Hilty(&hearts). I was actually curious about the understudies, and hoped we might get them, but now I'm glad we didn't, because if we did my poor teacher would never know the awesomeness of Megan.

- We saw the matinee performance. I know, I should have mentioned it sooner.

- I went online afterwards, when I got home, and discovered that another one of my female friends finds Fiyero attractive. And by Fiyero, I mean Clifton Hall as Fiyero. That's good, I suppose, because he's supposed to be hot. Right? But again, how could anyone even see him properly? And why is it that almost everyone finds someone who plays Fiyero attractive except me?

- My classmates were kind of noisy, but they did discuss the show, so I'll forgive them.

- Yet another mention of the vapid girl. I told her how long the show was, right? Well, in the middle of the second act, she leaned over to me and asked how much time was left. Of course, I was all WTF and didn't tell her, partly because I didn't know, but mostly because that's just rude. Edit: And then I got the impression that she was kind of afraid of the students in my year for a while, because of that. Well, you were being stupid!

- On a happier note, another one of my female friends liked the show, and is now searching for clips of the Toronto cast on Youtube.

Thus endeth the review.
