Hey dudes and ladies! I have been so busy!
been working about 30 hours a week for the past month along with about 13 hours of class. Its been busy but good. I have money! I get to plan a trip to New Orleans and buy new socks! No more holes on my socks to strangle my poor little toes! I love money.
My grandma exploded and was in the hospital with acute delerium/increase in dementia causing extreme combativeness over the slightest provocation (eg here let me help you put on a shirt or help you get up to the bathroom). Every option was examined like increase in pain was treated, antibiotics for possible UTI, taken off one med, put on another, then a different. Nothing worked. Went to the hospital for three days and after refusing meds was cleared of all meds for about 30 hours and got put on a simple 3 meds. One for pooping (hey, she's 99, it's hard to poo when you're 99), one for not peeing too much at night (hooray for detrol!) and one for the crazy time (seroquel) and it works FABULOUSLY. She's happy and, most importnatly, very much herself and not all weird. good times.
All that said, it was crap because I had to spend two nights there and loose more sleep anyway worrying about her, not to mention serious tension with the rest of the fam. Oh goodness me.
So on thursday when she went home and I was able to drive to work in the morning knowing I wouldn't have to spend the night there I was ELATED. That feeling has lasted and although I am tired and feel very busy I also feel VERY happy that all I have to worry about is my own crap that I have ultimate control over.
Plus, more work means more money in my line of business, so I will take that 12 hour shift this Friday, thankyouverymuch.
In other news Abe and I pulled off a fabulous dinner for my parents this Sat. They needed some R&R and I thought that caviar and champagne might do the trick for all four of us! I made little yeast risen buckwheat blini to have the creme fraiche and caviar on with champagne. Then dinner was handmade pasta (with Redmill semolina flour) that had great texture with a shortrib ragu courtesy of Abe's slow-cooking skills. Salad was mache with orange segments and green olives and my mom brought lemon tea cakes for dessert. It was a fine evening all around that hit it's climax when the fire alarms went off int he whole building over a candle that was left on on the 3rd floor. two units have extensive water damage from sprinklers. Hooray!
Today I have been studying for my two midterms tomorrow. They should not be too hard, I hope. At least there is no math involved. It's not that any of the math done in nursing is ever even remotely difficult but that I do it so infrequently. It requires a part of my brain left relatively untouched since my first year of college when I dropped calculus because I discovered I didn't need to take it. Ask me about diseases! Ask me about diseases all the live long day!
Also today I bought things with all this new found money! The aforementioned socks are from eddie bauer and are awesome! adorable patterns in soft, sturdy cotton. Long ones to go under my boots as well! I also got a bunch new underwear since apparently I cannot keep track of that either. Pajama pants because my only pair had litterally fallen apart and I had sewn some string on to hold them up. And the best part is this:
Dry Shampoo
Now a year ago if I had heard of this I would have said, "that's digusting." But the thing is a year ago I hadn't colored my hair and my lovely untouched locks had all the moisture they needed despite being vigorously washed every day. Now my blondy hair gets really dry and I should really only wash it like, every 3 days, but you know. It gets smelly. Like...just unwashed hair smelly but still. And greasy.
Dry shampoo. You spray it onto your scalp and rub it in and it is mostly made of various starches and silicon and some fragrance but you know...it works quite well. It pretty much looks and feels liek I did wash my hair. So you know. It's something.
Abe is putting under-cabinet lighting in our kitchen. He's pretending to be handy! Which, in fact, he is when he actually finally gets around to doing something. He is methodical adn detail oriented where I get it done as fast as possible. Sometimes we even work together without arguing and end up with a very fine finished product. Today is not one of those days.
Apparently I had Things To Say!
